This is an excellent application! A definite must have!
As a high school student who has taken 3 years of ASL and want to become an ASL interpreter, this is an AMAZING app. Works well and very customizable. Totally worth the money. Good job! And thank you
Im new to ASL and am shocked by how many poor quality apps are out there. Ive downloaded and deleted quite a few. This one is a keeper. Its clear and has a lot of options that help you learn at your level. I love being able to practice signing whenever I have a few minutes on my phone. Great app. Thank you!
The app is great, can really learn and practice. Also his website is great. Ron
First of all: thank you. Second: this app isnt perfect, but the only way you can perfectly improve your receptive skills is to hang out with Deaf people. That being said, this app is the closest that youll get while youre by yourself. I use the app before I get together with friends to remind my eyes what to look for. A huge part of reading fingerspelling is the context, so getting random words that hardly ever repeat is awesome. It really challenges my eyes and brain and thats what you need if youre an ASL student. Again. THANK YOU for this app. Happy signing.
This app has seriously help me so much been using this app less than a month and a can see the results, my teacher does as well. Its so good that he wanted me to write down the name so he could give it to his other students. Definitely worth the money.
this app rocks!
All interpreters could benefit from this app to keep their reception sharp (at top speed). I would have given this an app if it would keep my previous score but each time Im starting over. I would like to see my progression so that would be a great addition to this!
This app is very helpful in recognizing hand shapes in sign language. I dont have any one to sign with regularly but using this app helps me to "see" signing until I start my upcoming classes.
Overall, a very good and useful app for anybody trying to learn to sign. My only concerns are a couple technical things: 1. I wish the app could rotate to landscape view so it would be easier to use on iPad 2. Sometimes the edges of the alphabet pictures are cut off Worth the money, though.
Really enjoy this app! - Can you update it to allow spelling to go even faster? - How about "real life" fingerspelling?...meaning taping people fingerspelling at different speeds...even different people so different "individual" styles can be used to increase receptive skills
I fell in love with ASl 10 years ago and took a few college courses. Ive struggled to move past my intermediate skill level since I dont know anyone else who signs. I can slowly teach myself new signs, I can fingerspell words I see, but understanding others fingerspelling has been difficult until now. Since I downloaded the app a couple of months ago, my speed has picked up tremendously. Thank you!
The app functions well, however the top speed is too slow to benefit much from. I bought his program for the computer (love it) and expected similar speed variability. Disappointed.
This app helped me improve being receptive to fingerspelling! Its essential to every ASL student
this app has greatly improved my ability to read fingerspelling at high speeds. what i would like to see for future versions is to be able to see the words list, practice specific words by selecting them, and add your own words to it (which would be very helpful especially for names.)
Use this on the web site and Im thrilled to have it in an app. When ever I have a few minutes, I practice and Im improving in leaps and bounds. Thank You!
Great app to help me speed up reading fingerspelling. Only thing is, is that its pricey for what it is, and it bothers me that the B is incorrect. Besides that great app. Already helping me.
This is an indispensable app to improve finger spelling. It would be nice if the sign for "b" was the more common one. To improve the app I wish there was a number indicator next to the speed slider.
The word choice is excellent, there are so many words in this app, its common to see new words since it has a good variety of vocabulary. Ive been using this all day and have felt the different stages of learning: From practicing to just recognize the letters, to saying the letters in my mind as they are shown, to spelling along with it as I see it, to being able to finish and guess the rest of the word, even to start to "feel" the word and fill in the gaps because of the shape of common suffixes "tion" "ing", etc.. All the while increasing speed but not too much. I am now able to understand words at about 3/4 of full speed on any length (Im a good persistent learner). Thanks Bill Vicars for all you do. The only way this app could possibly be any better is if it had pre-recorded videos of real people finger spelling at different speeds. Deaf people and others often abbreviate since they spell so fast they are shaping the next letter before theyre even finished with the letter they are on! Anyways, this app is good. I dont even use the typing feature since its too slow typing it in, I just use the show answer feature because usually you know when youre right, its faster that way, you can get in more words, and the more time your brain spends practicing reception, the more progress youll see. I am persistently patient.
I love practicing my fingerspelling with this app. The only suggestion I would make is that it would be great to have an option to create a list of specific words to practice.
